Department of Water and Environmental Engineering

The rapid industrial development and urbanization side-effects cause an impact on urban environments and sanitation. Particularly in Cambodia, there is an urgent need for skilled people to tackle those environmental issues. In the context of ASEAN integration, Cambodia must have human resources in this sector in order to promote more market opportunities and reduce the free flow of foreign environmental engineers to Cambodia. Looking at the current and long-term approach toward regional and local needs for solving environmental issues, the Faculty of Hydrology and Water Resources Engineering is focusing on human resources development and technology transfer from high-tech countries. Department of Water and Environmental Engineering is created to develop the engineering academic program for providing high-quality education on environmental engineering solutions to produce highly capable human resources in Cambodia.

Program Offering:

Engineer’s Degree in Water & Environmental Engineering (WEE)

In 2018, Water and Environmental Engineering (WEE) program were created to train students to become the high capable engineers dealing with these issues. WEE program is designed to provide students with theoretical and practical knowledge on calculating, designing, planning, and operating water treatment and allocation systems, wastewater treatment and sewerage systems. The student will also gain knowledge and skill in building sanitation/plumbing and various environmental solutions. The program is adopting green education strategies and Lab Base Education with Student Learning Centre approach for the maximum benefit of 4C’s education and 21st-century skills. 

A professional laboratory called Water and Environment Laboratory “WE Lab” has been established to support this program. WE Lab is aimed to be a research hub for water and wastewater treatment technology under the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC), Cambodia. WE Lab has organized a regular weekly seminar for students to share and learn from each other and from professors which is used as a platform for student consultation. Research Unit Water and Environment under Research and Innovation Center plays an important role in coordinating all the water and environmental-related research projects at ITC which support the curriculum improvement and build up more scientific capability of the lecturer/research. 

With WEE program, the students will have critical thinking on the solutions to environmental problems, such as global change impact, water crisis, water supply and sanitation, wastewater treatment and disposal systems, air pollution, solid and hazardous wastes, waste minimization, and environmental impact assessment and audit to promote sustainability in our business and in our community through the ongoing development of environmentally responsible practices.

Requirement to Receive the Certificate:

In order to successfully complete the program and receive the certificate of Water and Environmental Engineering (WEE), the students have to:

·       Complete and pass all subjects in the program successfully

·       Pass all semester exams

·       Complete internship 1 month in year 4 and complete final year internship for at least 3 months in year 5.
