Architectural Engineering plays an important role in economic development in a society. Architectural project includes the design of buildings, roads, bridges and landscapes, both locally and globally. Architectural Engineering consists of Architecture, Engineering and urban planning from small scales to large scales. Great architecture, engineering and urban planning may mean a more developed country!
Today’s rapid development in Cambodia towards sustainable society is unavoidably needs architects and engineers.

Therefore, GAR program in Cambodia and is created so far for about 10 years at the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC) to respond to the increasing demand of human resources in architecture, engineering and urban planning needs. GAR aims to produce qualified architects and engineers in the fields of architecture (Planning, surveying, renovation and design) and engineering (calculation and construction).

ABOUT GAR (DAE) PROGRAM

GAR (DAE) is a 5-year architectural engineering program.
Students who passed the ITC entrance exam will spend their first 2-year in the
foundation years, known as Tronc Commun (in French language). At Tronc Commun, students will study general courses including math, physic, chemistry, introduction to programming, introduction to technical drawing, English, French, introduction to marketing, introduction to management, philosophy, Khmer history and administration.

Starting from the third year, students will select their preferable major/department at Faculty of Civil Engineering; and take courses based on their major. If you select GAR (DAE) program, you will study architectural engineering courses related to architecture, civil engineering, urban planning and construction management.

Courses and Study Fields

The fields of study (coursework) can be categorized into different groups as follows:

Fundamentals of Architectural Engineering (14 subjects): 1) Computer Graphic Design (AutoCAD), 2) Descriptive Geometry, 3) Khmer History of Architecture, 4) Ornaments of Khmer Architecture, 5) Sketching and Colors, 6) General Theory of Architecture, 7) Heat in Building, 8) Strength of Materials, 9) Survey, 10) Computer Graphic Design II (Sketch-up), 11) World History of Architecture, 12) Construction Materials, 13) Computer Graphic Design 3 (3Ds Max), 14) Structural Analysis, 15) Geographic Information System, 16) Sanitary Installation, 17) Electricity in Building, 18) Reinforced Concrete, 19) Construction Technology, 20) Steel Structure, 21) External Work (Building Service), 22) Interior Design, 23) Urban Planning I, 24) Landscape Architecture, 25) Urban Regulation and Law, 26) Soil Mechanic, 26) Wood Construction, 27) Professional Practice, 28) Project Management, 29) Cost Estimation, 30) Stability of Tall Building, 31) Thesis Writing and Methodology, 32) Pre-Stressed Concrete, 33) Urban Planning II, 34) Internship and Thesis Defense.
  3. Architectural Design Workshop (5 subjects): 1) Architectural Design 1; 2) Architectural Design 2; 3) Architectural Design3; 4) Architectural Design 4; and 5) Architectural Design 5.
  4. Compulsory Internship (2 internships): 1) Internship at The End of Year 3; 2). Internship at Semester 2 of Year 5.

Curriculum of GAR/DAE

  • Study duration of 5 years (2 years in Tronc Commun + 3 years in GAR).
  • Total of 45 courses (384 hours per semester) and 2 internships.
  • Possible exchange program with partnered universities in France, Belgium, Thailand, Japan, etc.
