Air Pollution Analysis Lab

Location: Building A, Room number: A-412

Description about lab: Air Pollution Analysis Lab was established in 2022, funded by JICA and JST for the project of Establishment of Risk Management Platform for Air Pollution.
The laboratory focuses on detailed examination of atmospheric pollutants, providing critical insights into their composition and impacts on health and environment.

Photos about lab and main equipment:

High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC):
Identify, and quantify polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and other organic pollutants in air samples.

Ion Chromatography
Detect and quantify major anions (e.g., sulfate, nitrate, chloride) and cations (e.g., ammonium, calcium, potassium) in the air.

Carbon Analyzer
Measure the concentration of organic and elemental carbon in particulate matter.

Weighing Chamber
Determine particulate matter mass concentration in air samples.

Research areas:
● Measuring and characterizing airborne particulate matter (PM) to assess pollution levels and potential health risks.
● Quantifying organic carbon in atmospheric aerosols to understand sources and contributions to air pollution.
● Identifying and measuring Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the air to evaluate their sources, distribution, and potential toxicity.
● Airborne plastic particle analysis: Detecting and characterizing airborne plastic particles to assess their presence, sources, and environmental impact.
● Atmospheric ion analysis: Measuring atmospheric ions to investigate their role in air pollution formation, transport, and chemical transformations.
